Building a Bus Shelter, Y Garreg

As a Llanfrothen, Gwynedd based construction company, we at Llechen Lân were delighted to be given the opportunity to quote for building a bus shelter for our own community of Garreg, Llanfrothen. We were very happy to be working once more with Chris Wilderspin architects, working closely alongside community councillors to develop a design which reflects the architectural history, slate heritage and agricultural grit of our community.

The bus shelter sits on the site of the old turnpike cottage which was taken down at some point in the mid 20th century in order to widen the road. It was a tall order to create a building which would not detract from the significant architectural heritage of the village, which has been so well preserved by the Clough Williams Ellis Foundation. We think the finished shelter has a quirkiness that Clough would have approved of, without compromising on practicality!

With every job, in North Wales and beyond, our aim at Llechen Lân is to build natural character - to create buildings which accentuate the qualities of the places we work. We take great care to source natural and traditional materials, work with an empathetic approach to customers and our team and continue to celebrate and develop heritage skills and craftsmanship.

We love the idea that "tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire” (Gustav Mahler) and creating a building utilising our skills as Welsh roofers and timber framers to meet a current need in a traditional setting has been a great opportunity to put that principle into action.

Many thanks to Croesor, Llanfrothen and Rhyd community council for awarding us the contract and being a great customer to work with.
